About the Journal

Cadernos de Segurança Pública was established to promote dialogue and reflection about one of the major challenges facing contemporary Brazilian society: public security. Idealised by Instituto de Segurança Pública (ISP), the first publication was launched in December 2009 to celebrate the institute’s 10th anniversary of operation, with the aim of establishing itself as a forum of studies and analysis on the subject. Since its creation, its goal has been to contribute to qualified debate, bringing together contributions from professionals, scholars, managers, and researchers who are active and interested in the field of public security. 

Published annually, Cadernos de Segurança Pública features original and previously unpublished contributions, in the form of articles, interviews, and reviews, with the aim to document contemporary perspectives on public security and to stimulate new approaches for this complex and ever-evolving field. Committed to advancing knowledge in the field, the journal seeks to create a space for critical analysis, fomenting discussions that contribute to the formulation of more effective public policies and a safer and fairer society.

Traditionally, the issues of Cadernos de Segurança Pública were organised by specific themes and submissions were received via one-off calls for submissions. As of 2025, the journal adopts rolling submissions, without thematic restrictions on submissions. With this change, introduced in the 17th issue, the authors may submit articles at any moment, provided they are prepared in accordance with the journal’s guidelines. To ensure the impartiality of the published works, the articles undergo a double-blind peer review process, with an average review time of six months.
